Fine Free at Palisade Park Public Library

Fine free applies to overdue Palisades Park Public Library items. Fine free does not include special collections such as hotspots and museum passes. Fine free does not include overdue fines on materials owned by other libraries, printing charges, or replacement fees for any lost or damaged items.

Palisades Park Public Library cardholders can visit our circulation desk to have existing fines for Palisades Park Public Library items waived. If you have charges from lost or damaged materials, please speak with us and we will work with you to find an equitable solution. 

You are still responsible for fines on items owned by other libraries. These items will accrue fines according to the policy of the owning library. It is important to remember, some items you borrow or request may not be owned by Palisades Park Public Library.

You are still responsible for replacement costs for damaged and lost items.

 

You will not be able to check out items if:

  • You owe a replacement cost for a damaged or lost item
  • You owe over $10 in fines
  • You have not yet returned an overdue item

Replacing Lost Items

You are still responsible for items that are lost or damaged.  You will be charged the full replacement cost on lost or damaged items.

We will accept an identical copy as a replacement for Palisades Park Public Library items that have been lost or damaged. Please contact the library for more information.

Renewals

Eligible items will renew automatically 3 days before their due date for the full loan period.

You will receive a notification via email or text if an eligible item has been renewed.

Notification is only via email or text, so be sure we have your current information in our system.

You can still renew eligible items at any time through your account at bccls.org or at any BCCLS library.

Materials cannot be renewed if they are on hold for another patron.

Automatic Renewals

Effective February 14, 2020, BCCLS automatically renews eligible items checked out to library cardholders.

How do Automatic Renewals Work?

Eligible items will renew automatically 3 days before their due date for the full loan period.
You will receive a notification via email or text if an eligible item has been renewed.
Notification is only via email or text, so be sure we have your current information in our system.
You can still renew eligible items at any time through your account at bccls.org or at any BCCLS library.

An item is NOT eligible for Auto-Renew if:

The item has reached its renewal limit.
The item is on hold for another patron.
Your card has expired.
You owe $10 or more in fines.
You have 10 or more items overdue.

*Printing & Account Charges Policy – Residents Only

  • Printing and copying services must be paid at the time of use. 
  • Town residents who do not have cash may have printing charges added to their library card account, up to a maximum of $10.00
  • Once a resident account balance exceeds $10.00, no further printing or other chargeable services may be used until payment is made. 
  • Accounts with an outstanding balance of $10.00 or more will also be blocked from borrowing or renewing library materials until the balance is cleared. 
  • Non-residents must pay for printing at the time of use. Any payments paid online collected from non-residents are returned to their home library, not the Palisades Park Public Library. 
  • All fees and fines must be reduced to less than $10.00 to restore full library privileges. 
  • While library operations are supported by town taxes, optional service fees such as printing are user-based to ensure equitable access and fair cost recovery for all patrons. 

Borrowing Rules

You must have a valid BCCLS library card to borrow items.

50 items may be checked out on your card at once.

6 CDs may be check out at a single time.

6 DVDs/Blu-Rays may be check out at a single time.

6 Audiobooks may be check out at a single time.

Your card will be blocked if your privilege expires, you owe $10 or more in fines, or you have more than 10 overdue items. Patrons are responsible for all lost or damaged items.

Returning Items

All items should be returned to the book drop located outside the library or at the circulation desk.
